After a long series of public meetings spearheaded by the Downtown Rotary, City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division, and Skaters for Eugene Skateparks, a safety strategy document was created to serve as a guidepost for reducing crime and improving the park. Although representatives from both the Whitaker Community Council and Oregon Department of Transportation were involved in crafting the document, executives from both organizations declined the safety strategy group’s invitation to officially endorse the document.
