Kickoff Meeting Report

Thanks to everyone who turned out in force for the kickoff meeting! There were about 70 people in attendance – skaters, parents, neighbors, parks staff, and even city council member Andrea Ortiz. The Parks staff who were there said that this was the largest turnout they had ever seen in their experience with parks planning meetings. The Parks staff brought the crowd up to speed on the history of the five year planning process and how the final site was chosen under the bridge. They talked some about the next steps, which include initiating the RFP process to select a qualified design/build firm and then handed off the discussion to a representative from Skaters for Eugene Skateparks. The SES speaker layed out the $250,000 fundraising goal with a budget breakdown between the four major categories of funding sources: 1) Grassroots; 2) Major individual and corporate donors; 3) Events; and, 4) Grants. Following Q&As, most of the people in attendance stuck around to volunteer for the major committees that were established by SES to help reach our goals: 1) Events Committee; 2) Fundraising Committee; 3) Design Committee; and 4) Steering Committee. If you would like to volunteer to help out with any of these committees, please contact SES by clicking here to send a message about your interest. Click here to see the slideshow presentation.
