Skaters for Eugene Skateparks fundraising efforts got off the ground on August 16th, with a concert at Eugene’s own WOW Hall. The event was billed as an An Evening of Tribute to Joe Strummer with the the proceeds going to Skaters for Eugene Skateparks and the Strummer Foundation for New Music…

Click here to read the full story…

…Also included on the bill was a series of raffles to help raise additional funds. The most sought after raffle item was a Strummer Signature Telecaster. After being strummed by Dan Jones of ZZ Clash during an amazing recreation of the Clash’s “Know Your Rights”, the Telecaster was kindly raffled off to one lucky winner…only to return to the stage to finish out the set due to Dan’s broken guitar.

All in all, it was a very successful evening. In true Joe Strummer fashion, we managed to raise $700.00 for each organization while paying tribute to a legendary musician and his music.

*The evening would not have been possible if not for the generous support of lead sponsors Tactics and Obey Clothing as well as Paul’s Bicycle Way of Life, The House of Records, Harlequin Beads and Jewelry, and System You Productions.

Thanks to everyone who attended the site planning workshop on May 6th. Thumbs up to the Parks Dept. and especially Robin Hostick for a very well-run meeting. It sounds like the overall consensus for the siting was Option 3, which is the area of the existing playground and restroom. The Parks folks still have to huddle and assemble feedback from all corners before finalizing on any location. We will keep you posted on where things go from here.
