Final Summer In The City Skateboard Competition at the Springfield Skatepark (Saturday, 8/28)

Don’t miss the City of Eugene Parks Department’s final contest of the summer. Registration is from 4-5 PM and the contest will run from 5-8 PM on Saturday, August 28. Skaters of all ages and ability levels are welcome to sign up, but youth under 18 need to have a parent present to register. Prizes donated by Tactics will be awarded to winners in all categories and there will be hot dogs and music to boot. The event is also locally supported by Boardsports and Cactus (Springfield). All proceeds from the event will be donated to Skaters for Eugene Skateparks to fund the Washington-Jefferson Skatepark. Click below to check out the details.

SES Fundraiser – Madison Clips of Faith Beer and Film Tour at Alton Baker Park (8 p.m., Friday, 7/16)

A celebration of Craft Brewing and Film. Please join SES, drink beer, watch movies outside, and help raise money for the skatepark! All profits from the sale of beverages at this event will go toward building the W-J Skatepark. New Belgium Brewing company is traveling around the country, sharing a complete assortment of their tastiest beers along with 20 of their best fan-made films created from the last year. This Friday, July 16th, at Alton Baker Park is the tour stop in Eugene. New Belgium has partnered with SES to offer the profits for this festival to SES in exchange for SES providing the volunteer help to make the event a success. Please spread the word to everyone you know.

Do you support the skatepark? We need your help – please volunteer. This is an all ages event, but you must be 21 or over to get a beer wristband. There are opportunities for all ages to volunteer (and get some freebies). W-J Safety Strategy Released

After a long series of public meetings spearheaded by the Downtown Rotary, City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division, and Skaters for Eugene Skateparks, a safety strategy document was created to serve as a guidepost for reducing crime and improving the park. Although representatives from both the Whitaker Community Council and Oregon Department of Transportation were involved in crafting the document, executives from both organizations declined the safety strategy group’s invitation to officially endorse the document. Nonetheless, we have heard resounding support for the strategy from a large number of Whiteaker citizens. Click here to view the original Safety Summit background and agenda memo. Emerald City Roller Girls donate $250 from recent bout

With support coming from all angles we would like to say thank you to The Emerald City Roller Girls for recently getting involved and donating $250.00 from their own ticket sales last month! Being supporters of any and all types of skating, the league Secretary Ambruisia, Treasurer Reign of Tara, and Vice President JuiceBox personally stopped by to deliver the check to S.E.S team member Eric Purdy at Tactics. The Emerald City Roller Girls took notice of our initiative to build a new world class skate park under the WJ bridge and are looking forward to seeing it completed. Thank you girls! Final Dreamland design will be revealed this spring!

The City Parks staff is still working with ODOT to confirm that the final design will meet all of their guidelines. Additionally, the Parks folks want to take the final Dreamland design and create a rendering that shows how it fits into their plans for surrounding park improvements so the entire community can see how all the pieces of the puzzle will fit together to improve this space. Therefore, the unveiling of the final design has been postponed for a bit. Please stay tuned…
